Meet the Team
Robbie Sheffman* has spent his lengthy and varied career as a mediator, investigator, lawyer, adjudicator, teacher and broadcaster trying to “get to the bottom of things.” He applies his curiosity, perseverance and communication skills to untangle and resolve. His background and experience make an excellent platform for work in dispute resolution.
Robbie’s focus is now on mediation and workplace investigation and assessment.
He was called to the bar in British Columbia in 1992 and has practiced in a wide variety of areas, including decades of practice in Canadian citizenship and immigration law, during which he helped clients navigate the complex waters of Canada’s citizenship and immigration programs, and obtain outcomes that were of enormous personal importance to them. He has had the pleasure of working with people from around the world and thereby learning about many different cultures. Other practice areas have included business law, land use, construction, debtor-creditor, insolvency, contracts and infrastructure projects.
In addition, for approximately nine years, Robbie served as a Chairperson of the Employment Insurance Board of Referees in Victoria, BC. In this position, he heard and issued written decisions on Employment Insurance appeals and was responsible for ensuring procedural fairness and writing substantively correct decisions. He conducted and adjudicated approximately 1,000 appeals.
He has also taught courses at the University of Victoria’s Faculty of Law (Remedies and Business Associations) and has been an on-air analyst and associate producer at TSN, which at the time was Canada’s only national television sports network.
His law degree is from the University of Victoria in Victoria, British Columbia (1991). He also has a Bachelor of Arts degree from York University in Toronto, Ontario, where he majored in Mass Communications and Sociology (1986).
Robbie is a Mediator of the Associate Civil Roster of Mediate BC.
