Meet the Team
Cherolyn Knapp’s practice includes mediation, facilitation, negotiation, workplace assessments, training and investigations. A former litigator, Cherolyn understands that most people prefer to have conflicts resolved rather than endure the financial and emotional costs and uncertainty of litigation. She has a great deal of insight into interpersonal dynamics and conflict and works creatively with participants to craft a process that suits their needs. Cherolyn’s considerable skills are of assistance in business, non-profit, workplace or family systems.
Cherolyn grew up on the shores of Georgian Bay in Owen Sound, Ontario and earned a Bachelor of Commerce (Human Resources) from Ryerson University in 1995. Before becoming a lawyer, Cherolyn worked in human resources, non-profit and business management roles, after which Cherolyn earned a Bachelor of Laws from the University of Ottawa in 2003. She practiced law in Ontario until December 2019. She is called to the bar in British Columbia and makes her home in Victoria, BC.
Cherolyn’s 15 years of legal practice covered a range of legal issues including employment and human rights for employees and employers, commercial, estates, property, breach of contract, construction and family disputes. A passionate problem-solver, Cherolyn has always assisted clients to resolve disputes through negotiation and mediation where possible.Cherolyn is a dynamic public speaker and is frequently invited to present on topics such as understanding conflict, conflict resolution, women and negotiation.
Cherolyn is an active community volunteer, including serving as a board member for the Victoria Bar Association and a volunteer with ADRBC. She is past-president of the Wellington Law Association and severed many years on the Ontario Bar Association provincial Council and subcommittees. She has also served on boards of directors of non-profit organizations and volunteered in mentoring roles with lawyers and new Canadians.
Cherolyn is a member of the Greater Victoria Chamber of Commerce and the ADR Institute of British Columbia. She is a accredited as a Qualified Mediator (Q.Med) through the ADR Institute of Canada and she is a Mediator of the Associate Civil Roster of Mediate BC. She is also a member of the Canadian Bar Association (BC Branch) and Chartered Professionals in Human Resources of BC & Yukon.
